WE PARTNER WITH OVER 50 OTHER FARMERS WHO SHARE OUR COMMITMENT

A founding principle of Heartstone Farm is that we work with small family farmers like ourselves, who raise animals naturally, on pasture, without antibiotics and hormones - and who are committed to humane treatment.

We're building a community of farmers and consumers who share a common vision. We’re creating a distribution channel for meat that is better and healthier than what you can buy in the store. Both your family and family farms in our region benefit.

As a Heartstone Farm customer you're part of this community -supporting a network of family farms across New England and the Northeast.

Together with our partner farms, we are committed to producing the best-tasting meat from animals raised naturally, without antibiotics or hormones, on pasture, and with humane care.

Supporting Local Farmers

A few years ago our customers started asking us if we could help them source other meat (like chicken and pork) raised naturally and locally.

At first, we started partnering with a few of our neighbors. Over the years, our network has grown. But we’ve never wavered in our standards. We won’t sell any meat to our customers unless it's good enough (and delicious enough) for our own dinner table.

Fair Prices for Farmers

For small family farms, marketing and selling their meat is challenging. Farmer’s markets are seasonal and time-consuming, and selling online requires technical skills and investment. This is why many farmers sell their cattle, pigs, and chickens to big meat processors rather than directly to consumers, receiving only a small fraction (14-40 cents of every food dollar) of what you pay at the grocery store.

The big meat processors (four companies control 85% of meat processing in the US) profit while farmers struggle. We believe that’s wrong.

We hold our farmer partners to a high set of standards and we commit to paying them a fair price for their farm products.

Your support matters

With your support, we're creating a community where both your family and family farms in our region benefit.

Together, we’re making a difference.

FAQs about our partner farms

At Heartstone Farms, we personally vet every farm we work with to ensure they meet our high standards for quality, humane care, and sustainability. This includes visiting the farms, speaking directly with the farmers, and closely inspecting their practices. We only partner with farms that align with our values—raising animals without antibiotics or added hormones, providing them with natural diets, and treating them with respect. Our commitment is to provide you with meat you can trust, and that means holding our partners to the same high standards we uphold on our own farm.

No. We only work with farms that adhere to the same strict standards we follow. None of our partner farms use antibiotics, added hormones, or mRNA vaccines in raising their animals.

“Approved by Farmer Dan” is more than just a stamp—it’s a guarantee of quality, integrity, and trust. Farmer Dan personally vets every farm we partner with, ensuring they meet our high standards for humane care, sustainability, and exceptional taste.

This means:
No antibiotics, no added hormones, no mRNA vaccines
Animals raised with respect and care
High-quality, great-tasting meat
Farms that share our commitment to transparency and regenerative farming

When you see "Approved by Farmer Dan," you know that the food on your table meets the same standards we uphold on our own farm.

We partner with small, family-run farms across the Northeast and beyond—each carefully selected for their commitment to humane and sustainable farming. Our turkeys, for example, come from Stonewood Farm in Vermont, and we work with other trusted farms for our pork and poultry. Every farm we work with meets the same high standards we uphold on our own farm in Maine.

Yes! We prioritize farms that use regenerative and sustainable practices to improve soil health, reduce environmental impact, and promote biodiversity. Many of our farms practice rotational grazing, which not only benefits the land but also produces healthier, more flavorful meat.

Our partner farms raise their animals with respect and care. That means:

  • No confinement in factory farms
  • A natural diet appropriate for each species
  • No antibiotics, added hormones, or mRNA vaccines
  • Plenty of space to roam and exhibit natural behaviors
