FAQs

Q: Where are Heartstone Farm’s hot dogs made?

We’ve partnered with W.A. Bean and Sons in Bangor to craft our unique recipe. Bean’s is a family-owned USDA facility in operation for over 125 years.

Q: Are the hot dogs pre-cooked?

Our hot dogs are pre-cooked during processing, which means they are safe to eat right out of the package. However, it is recommended to cook the hot dogs again before eating to enhance their flavor and texture.

Q: How are Heartstone Farm hot dogs different from conventional hot dogs?

Our hot dogs are made from beef that is raised on a natural, grass-fed diet, free from hormones, antibiotics, and harmful chemicals. This results in a healthier and more flavorful product that is better for you and the environment.

Q: How should I store the hot dogs?

Our hot dogs are vacuum-sealed and flash-frozen for freshness. They can be frozen for up to six months. Once opened, consume within three days.

Cooking Tips

  • We recommend thawing before cooking - to insure they are evenly cooked.
  • Thaw hot dogs overnight in the refrigerator or place the unopened package in a baggie and place in a bowl of cool water on the kitchen counter for one hour.
  • Preheat your grill or skillet to medium-high heat
  • Grill or pan-sear hot dogs for 3-4 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 160°F
  • For added flavor, brush hot dogs with olive oil or butter before cooking
  • Don't overcook - grass-fed beef cooks faster than grain-fed beef
  • Serve hot dogs on a toasted bun with your favorite toppings, such as diced onions, relish, or mustard
  • Enjoy the natural, rich flavor of grassfed beef without the need for excessive seasoning or sauces.

What do we mean by 100% Grass Fed?

Our beef is 100% grass fed and grass finished. That means our cattle only eat grass. No corn, no grain, no animal by products -just grass.

In the growing season, they feed on the pastures of our 500 acre farm. In the winter, they eat the hay (grass) we harvested from our fields in the summer.

Beware of supermarket beef labeled "grass fed." Most factory-farmed, supermarket beef is fed grain (mainly corn) in the last few months before slaughter (even when it’s labeled “grass-fed”). While grain will fatten cattle up quickly, it can also make them sick because grains are not their natural feed.

That's why knowing the farmer who raised your meat is so important.

When we say 100% grass fed we mean 100%.

A Note From Farmer Dan

I’m generally suspicious of store-bought hot dogs - I don’t believe in eating mystery meat. But I’m a hot dog lover - and it’s great to have hot dogs produced from our beef - with only the best ingredients. Try ‘em - you’ll sure love them as so many of our customers do!
